Too often. Once, when there on business, I had the misfortune to stay at the Parc 55 which was surrounded by filthy homeless slobs. The city washed a nearby plaza with bleach in the morning because of bodily fluids and defecation. On the way back from dinner, a co-worker asked me if we were getting closer to our hotel. I said "Of course, don't you smell the scent of urine getting stronger?"
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end."
- Ernst Jünger
"I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings."
