Royall Rugby

You might have the impression my medicine chest is beginning to resemble a drinks cabinet. You would not be far off. I should probably bring in the contractors to build an extension. Or, I could just convert Frisby's room into a cocktail-and-fragrances den. The thing is, I enjoy trying on new scents. The Royall line is one of my favourites, and, as you know, I am already a firm fan of Royall Musk and Royall Lyme. I find the packaging itself has a satisfyingly vintage, old-fashioned feel to it. Now there is a new one: Royall Rugby. A Brooks Brothers exclusive. I fail to see how I missed it when it was first introduced. I vaguely remember seeing a bottle in a Brooks Brothers store, but it was not until quite recently that I decided to take the plunge. The description reads:

A truly masculine fragrance that opens with a refreshing and aromatic touch of exotic dry wood. Geranium leaves and black currant unveil an earthy voyage with rugged notes of patchouli and vetiver which fuse with warm under laying nuances of incense suede.

Masculine, woody, rugged, warm, incensed: these are all perfectly apt descriptions of yours truly. Royall Rugby has quickly become my daily go-to scent, beating out even my collection of Creed, including Royal English Leather. Which is really saying something. Stay tuned.

Where is the origin of manufacture, Admiral? I hope that it is Bermuda and not New Jersey, sir.

Nice find! I have not had the opportunity to sample the Royall fragrances, but I look forward to do it someday.

Hilton ~ I'm afraid my answer would disappoint you. Like most chaps I would prefer that my favourite scents were all hand-produced by sex-starved 19-year old exotic supermodels with a penchant for rough Tweed held captive on a remote Caribbean island, but life isn't always that cooperative.

LSS ~ They're classics. I'm sure you would like at least one or two of the Royall fragrances.

I love the idea of a cocktail and fragrance den - mine is a Cinzano Bianco and Denim.

You may not be old enough to remember " Denim"

Can't find it on my favourite scent site http://www.fragrantica.com/
but it appears to be pretty nice.

Btw: Nice new icon of yours. Reminds me of my childhood. In Germany "Col. Clifton" is called "Percy Pickwick", what does sound a little more british from my point of view.

Hm, gotta check Amazon to complete my collection...

I have been aware of Royall Bay Rhum and later the Royall Lyme offering for years at traditional mens' clothing stores but have never purchased any of the firm's products. I recently sampled Royal Rugby at Brooks Brothers, and I found the scent too 'manufactured,' something that has pretty much ruined the Caswell & Massey fragrances in the last 10-12 years, save perhaps, their Verbena scent. For me D. R. Harris and George Trumper's products are much better choices.

Admiral,
Sounds like exotic dry wood, geranium leaves and black currant would combine well with sweat and sea salt as well as Tweed and gin.

I realize you haven't commented much on rugby. I'm playing some 7s this summer and would be interested in hearing your point of view and experiences on the sport. Thanks.
