  1. Ah, crooked tie bars.

  2. This does bring up the question of the tie clip. Do you or don't you? I see that HRH wears them, and have observed that he also tucks the end of his tie into his trousers. How do we feel about this? A certain outspoken and rather insecure Viennese countess recently told me, "we don't wear tie clips here ... it's cheap!" A malicious little snarl followed her condemnation of the custom. I'd love to hear thoughts on this!

  3. Tucking the end of one's tie into one's trousers is fine - if you never want to have sex ever again.

  4. Very neat!

(Guys I personally actually have nothing against tucking a tie into trousers but don't do it myself. Tie bars and style etc. very much depend on your social status, position and how you view your life; depending on your job (or non job) and living conditions. What I never understood about many is how they always seem to generalize without seemingly being able to also appreciate the beauty and quality of something that would *not* fit their own life/-styles.)

  5. I do not wear a tie clip and have never done so.

It reminds me of a particularly austere Jesuit priest-calculus-teacher I had for a master around 1985.

I do not tuck my tie into my trousers and do not recommend you do either.

  6. Admiral, thank you for your assertions on tie clips and tie tucking. I was worried there, for a moment...

A simple strip of cloth with 2 buttonholes in it works wonders: Keeps your tie in place without an unsightly tie-clip:

  8. Just wanted to be clear: I have never clipped nor tucked.

  9. Well said v.Braun & Admiral. Personally I only wear one with a slim (vintage) or knitted tie that would cover the whole width. I've tried a clip that covers 3/4 the way across on more modern silk ties & just couldn't bring myself to leave the house in doing so. All down to personal preference & individualism.
