I see people stumble around my college in ludicrous A&F/JW tracksuit bottoms and hoodies, etc. They seem to be labouring under the misconception that high-class brands make one well-dressed, or 'cool', without requiring any attention to appearance. How the mighty have fallen! What did you wear in your college days, LBT?
Anonymous ~ I came across this ad whilst looking through style archives for pics of spectator shoes. The contrast with today's A&F is striking, I think.
Sandra ~ I agree. But did you notice The Sartorialist deleted my comment? Honestly, I thought the man was a vagrant, but apparently he is a well-known clothing salesman or something. I had no idea (honestly)! The barbarians are not only at the gate, they have come through the gate and are making themselves at home. I am merely going along for the ride.
Benedict ~ I'm glad to hear you're putting up a resistance. At college I generally wore old dress shirts, tattersall shirts, rugby shirts, etc. For trousers I wore moleskins, cords, and jeans. Lots of jumpers and tweed jackets. Occasionally an old tweed suit. Suede brogues and loafers. Nothing spectacular, I'm afraid.
Great photo, where did you find it?
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of profit in making vagrants look fashionable, or in the case of Abercrombie & Fitch, the fashionable look like vagrants.
ReplyDeleteNice that you are holding back the barbarians at the gate!

I miss the old outfitter/haberdasheries, especially A&F
ReplyDelete...and thanks for the kind words.
