David - Scoop or unless you've been an inmate of an English Prep School A Handful of Dust may be more accessible and is wonderful. Brideshead Revisited, like a 1945 Quinta do Noval, is best left for a time when it can be truly appreciated.
Lots of people like the first half of Brideshead, before everything starts to unravel. It's sort of the whole point of the novel. Never mind. It's the Ordeal of Gilbert Penfold, by the way, and I recommend the Sword of Honour trilogy.
I really have been meaning to purchase some of his books, can you suggest a good one to begin with?
