The deerstalker is an aptly named and extremely functional hat. Stalking requires crawling in the sopping heather in a pouring rain or at minimum a steady drizzle. Crawling uphill and for miles. The wet pours down the back of the neck if you dare wear a flat cap. Learned the hard way in the Glen Isla. Holmes, as usual, has it right.
I've always been a great fan of Xander Armstrong. There is a clip of him in the series as a rude shop keeper (available on youtube) which always makes me laugh.
