Americans may not have a sense of tradition, but there was a great tradition of upper class Brits marrying new American money. Good thing, too...it literally brought in some much needed spondoola as well as fresh DNA.
Marrying rich Americans wasn't a tradition. It was a moment in time. It was a financial necessity ( that served both sides!), and allowed the British aristocracy to maintain their generations of traditions.
