I've noticed that gents in Middleburg , Virginia like their shoulders on this jacket to be rather padded. What do you recommend , Admiral? Natural shoulders or padding ? Thank you kindly in advance ...
@Anon ~ Shoulder-padding on hacking jackets is there to keep the gent's shoulders from getting chafed by the straps of his man-purse. If you have sufficiently strong, powerful shoulders, extra padding is not needed. And needless to say, don't even think of getting a man-purse.
@YBH ~ Indeed, one can. But I find my computational activities are greatly enhanced by a Turnbull & Asser smoking jacket, pure Saxxon wool trousers from Brooks Brothers, and Royal Albert black velvet house shoes from Edward Green.
Anon @08:56 ~ Yes, feel free to wear your hacking jacket with a classic pair of jeans. I like brogues, as you know. Something in suede would do nicely.
Rob @ 19:37 ~ Looking good, keeping fit, and taking pride in your appearance--as I do--is one of the most masculine things a man can do.
I must take exception to jeans with a hacking jacket. Jeans really go better with a loose American style unpadded tweed sport coat and loafers, perhaps a well worn one with leather arm patches over the worn out elbows. A well fitted hacking jacket goes best with riding breeches and decent boots.

ReplyDeleteIs it ever appropriate to wear denim jeans with a hacking jacket ? And which shoes are most suitable ? Thanks ...
ReplyDeleteDude, your fixation with clothes borders on faggitude.
