The Day of the Jackal (1973)

The film The Day of the Jackal (1973) is one of my favourites and remains an inspiration to this day. If you are planning to assassinate a senior political figure who is betraying your country, it is best to wear the proper clothes--including a cravat-- whilst doing so, to memorialise the occasion.

Edward Fox is a great actor! James and Emilia, too.

It's a great movie.

But the scene that is always rattling around in my head is when the police inspector's wife rouses her sleeping husband by grabbing his big toe and pulling up and out.

(I have resisted this maneuver on countless occasions.)

Today, he'd be wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with some juvenile motto.

This looks better than the version with Bruce Willis...

Also, as far as one can tell from those pictures, that is an intriguing watch that he is wearing...

The film is great. No doubt. They went to great pains capturing the early sixties in Paris. I do recommend the book. F.Forsyth had three great novels: Day of the Jackal, Odessa File and Dogs of War.

You can read them 30 times and never be Tom Clancied to death. Intrigue with elegance, I call it. But my all time favorites, No Comebacks. His shorts, are very well done.

One of my favorites. I read the book as well along with Odessa File but have yet to try Dogs of War.
