Taki on Seduction

Over at The Spectator, the venerable Taki has posted a piece on how to seduce women. Modern young men certainly need the help. There's a lot of good material in the article. I encourage you to read it.

I've been reading Taki since I was a schoolboy in England in the 1980s. Somewhere I have books of his High Life columns, and his prison memoir Nothing To Declare was particularly helpful to me at a certain time in my life.

So, I read the article with considerable interest, expecting great insights. Alas, there are several key misses . Also, I noted some hints of white-knighting and blue pill thinking, which I find very shocking and disappointing in a chap of his calibre. Taki, a male feminist?! Say it isn't so!

As an aside, I wonder how much input his female relations had in the article. At times it reads as if he's writing for them, and not for the single men requiring some help in the seduction department.

These days chicks dig jerks over gentlemen. They may claim they want gentlemen, but their behaviour says otherwise. They consistently favour the cads, thugs, bad boys, and rogues over the nice guys. Nice guys indeed finish last. Most of the time they don't finish at all, if you get my meaning.

I almost choked on my morning tea when I read this line: "women, unlike us, have a conscience." Nonsense. Women are far crueler in their own way than men. Women also don't love in the same way that men do. Men suffer when they expect women to reciprocate affection with the same quality and intensity. It's men--not women--who are the romantic sex. We are doomed to love them.

In picking up women, wit and humour are indispensable. Self-deprecation, not so much. Women want confidence and cocky bad-boy charm.

Taki recommends that young men write poetry and love letters. I have to admit, this was a tactic I used as a schoolboy, before emails, the interwebz, and smartphones came along, and I still have the letters to prove it. The written word is indeed powerful, but we shouldn't give our young men the impression that going around quoting Shakespeare is going to moisten any panties. Keep in mind, too, a lot of American and English girls these days are barely literate.

Being direct with women in California works. It's amazing how effective "I want to f*ck, let's go somewhere else" can be here. Crude, I know. But the days of courting "ladies and well-brought up young women" are long over. Especially in the Anglosphere.

If "the way to success with the fairer sex cannot be taught," as Taki claims, then what is the point of an article such as his? It can be taught, and it can be learned. We should be teaching more of our young men the new realities of women, relationships, and sex. And this includes teaching them Game and the art of seduction--not the art of sucking-up.

That's because he has kids including a daughter Mandolyna who at one point edited Takimag. I find that having children changes one in profound ways.

J ~ Indeed. That's the problem. Behind every bitchy, entitled princess is a doting father.

don't forget that Taki's crowd is top, top shelf, and therefore the majority of the ladies have nothing in common with today's females. JRF

Perhaps Taki was simply being nostalgic for the old days and humming this tune to himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWJOkzLBPak

I do think you manhandled Taki's argument. He acknowledged that breeding was a significant factor in how they should be treated. Kudos however for introducing your readers to The Speccie. We are one

maybe it is the women...in Latin America being a gentleman makes me quite popular with the ladies... but in the states being an ass-hole gets me laid like a pimp...

Guilty as charged. I finally drew the line though. Despite springing for private schools, overseas vacations, season lift tickets, computers, cell phones and various and sundry female accoutrements I finally and firmly put my foot down and only went with a used car for college!

I pity her suitors though. The darling lass has developed quite a sharp tongue which she does not hesitate to employ if, in her esteemed opinion, every detail in life isn't reliably up to snuff.

"We are doomed to love them." -very romantic-I like the notion and you are correct. I can make a man sick with desire even from a great distance. Some men have serenaded me, written songs for me to no avail. I've received plenty of flowers. I'm known for my love of flowers for sure. I truly appreciate them but no reciprocation is guaranteed. Little Miss can't be wrong. Where can I be found? On my pedestal, of course.

Oh, I meant to mention this in my previous comment . . . true, women love bad boys but not all bad boys are jerks. For instance, Jax Teller was a bad boy but he was no jerk. He loved deeply. He gave compliments when they were earned and he showed respect for those who showed respect for him. But don't ever cross him . . .he was also equally passionate about revenge. Oh, I already miss SOA.

England? I thought LBF was German. Oh well...

Jacobite, Sir, you may differ since you begged . . . Jax wasn't being a jerk when he shot Wayne Unser although it was hard to watch. Unser was standing in the way of his revenge--part of the SOA code--an eye for an eye, fingers for fingers, a life for a life. Unser was going to turn Gemma in. Gemma's life was required for Tara's life. Jax rarely murdered someone who didn't deserve it. The exception was the chinese guy and that was Gemma's fault. And, don't forget Jax was willing to turn himself in exchange for Tara's immunity. In the last episode, a black man was voted into the club. I really didn't have a problem with it. The black man was an honest kind of guy. There are black people and then there are niggers. Then, there are the "African Americans" who want special treatment but talk about equality. I will admit the "black" kind is not found very often. Jax committed suicide very similar to the manner in which his father had died. He rode his father's bike. He visited the place on the road where his father had died. He showed respect for his father even in the way he choose to end his life---no jerk would do that. You're right--it was a lot of fun and I hate the ride is over but the writers were running out of people to kill.

Admiral, I apologize in advance for using your blog for SOA discussion. With that being said . .. Jacobite, Sir, did you see the parallels between Jax and Hamlet beginning in episode one and onward throughout the series? I think Kurt Sutter did a nice job of tying the very first episode and the last episode together. I also liked the quote from Hamlet at the very end of the final episode. I thought it was fitting.

If you can't write, quoting Shakespeare doesn't hurt.
"Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love." --from Hamlet; I think I'm going to swoon.

It was hard not to since Sutter and the entire cast kept talking about it non-stop for seven years. I found the plot to be more of a Greek tragedy rather than a Shakespearean one.

BTW, Hamlet did not commit suicide but was killed in a duel by a poisoned blade. You should actually go see the play sometime...

Again, in response to Jacobite, sorry . . . What makes you think I don't know the play?! Did I say Hamlet committed suicide?! I've read/studied many of Shakespeare's plays. I prefer his love sonnets though.

Sir, I also found your comment to be a little condescending and that wasn't necessary. I'm seldom rude but here it goes . . . The description of your daughter--I know her kind and I pity her greatly. It's unfortunate that she will never-emphasis on never- realize that a doting father doesn't require a dollar sign attached to him. You've taught her well.

"Again, in response to Jacobite"

And exactly which "anonymous" are you? Apparently one that lacks the wit to use the Name/URL radio button at the bottom of the comment page. Then at least your comments would have some semblance of continuity even if they still don't make any sense. Hint: that option does not require you to use actual names or real URLs. For further anonymity from even our host you can use the TorBrowser

May I suggest "snootyuninformednarcissist" as a handle? And quit "apologizing" for your subsequent comment. It is an extremely weak and annoying passive/aggressive rhetorical ploy.

Jacobite--stupid name. Ah, my last comment hit a nerve apparently. When I'm right, I'm right.
And "snootyuninformednarcissist"--just another description for your sharp-tongued daughter. Using the last part of your "handle"---Bite me, I know you wanna. And "Anonymous" is just fine with me. Perhaps I will choose a name in the future, but I won't use the one you suggested because I think it's too long. haha

Now, this blog belongs to the Admiral, and he has been very patient. Our back and forth banter has gone on long enough--truce. So I will not be checking for additional comments from you. I regret that I have been less than gracious, and I'm being sincere. Gentlemen, Merry Christmas to both of you.

As long as you stop posting inane and ignorant blather about your hair or purported good looks. And as far as following your gracious advice of putting my face anywhere near your smelly snatch - no thanks!

Here is a generic poem for any woman:

I'll put you on a pedestal,
I'll treat you like top shelf.
But if you don't do what you should,
You can go F**K Yourself."
