Some of my ancestors emigrated to America from Alsace when the family patriarch decided he was tired of having his sons die or get wounded as Hussars for Napoleon.
From the stories handed down, the Hussars seem to have been quite gallant and courageous.
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end. "
