Thanks for pointing me to it (the sun and the writer). Schopenhauer in his later years also used to take off his hat and pay respect to it every morning, his trusty Atma ('the world-soul', his poodle) at his side.
I have often indulged myself in that sun-adoring practice, too, recently, for example while eating a salad nicoise and drinking several glasses of white wine while discussing literature with a good friend...
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end."
- Ernst Jünger
"I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings."
