What I liked about Mercedes until the 1990s S class that looked like a brick was the slight progression of what one could tell was the same underlying design philosophy. One of the things I like about Porsche is the consistent design of the 911 or Carrera or whatever you want to call it.
I am glad I am not the only one that dislikes both the current line-up of M-B and metallic paint finishes.
Decades ago, the cars of Mercedes-Benz were discreetly handsome, understated and elegant. Now they are the among the flashiest and most ostentatious. They have sadly become the automotive equivalent of a designer tracksuit with trainers.
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end."
- Ernst Jünger
"I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings."

I miss the Mercedes from the 1980s and earlier. Today's models are like Japanese cars.
I so agree!
The old colours were better too, especially the non-metallic ones..

J Kraus - that's because they want to sell them to Russian gangsters and that lot now.
Admiral - great composition. I particularly like the Rhodesian Ridgeback...
