Beach Idler

I'm taking some time off today and heading to the beach. It's sunny and warm here, temperature in the low 80s. I've been informed that the rest of the country is experiencing serious winter storms. What can I say? Hang in there. And keep a stiff upper lip, and all that.

Will stare westward in hate through the ice...

Lucky bastard.

I'll console myself by imagining you surrounded by hordes of Mongols and other vibrants who are crowding in on your finely chosen relaxation spot on the beach, inches away from resting their limbs on your sand towel. A microcosm of California as a whole.

Relatedly, my parents are thinking about moving to Newport Beach. They're semi-retired Northerners who have grown tired of the cold. Would they have a good life? And would it make for a decent inheritance in a couple decades? (AKA, I hope my jealousy-inspired scenario is a myth and property values will stay high).

I will dream of the warm sun hitting my aching back as I put away my snow shovel.

You have used some unfamiliar words in this post for those of us in New York. "Sunny?" "Warm?" What do they mean?

You may have a point. I've broken two very robust ice scrapers on my windshield this winter.
