Almost bought land near William's Town near the end of the road on Exuma. Nice ruin of a plantation house, big ideas, thoroughly drunk. Some trouble of a Malcolm Lowry sort in Georgetown. Project abandoned. Bad feelings all around. I stay north now in the vicinity of Green Turtle in the Abacos. White people run the place, loyalists, interbred but sturdy. Many crossed eyes and extra digits.
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end."
- Ernst Jünger
"I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings."
