Wine Season

In recent months, on the advice of a weight-lifting comrade, I've been drinking greater quantities of red wine in the evening.

I'm not a wine snob, as you know, but I do enjoy it. I was raised on good wine--courtesy of my parents and the environments in which I grew up (for which I'm extremely grateful)--but I never developed a love or obsession with it, like a lot of chaps I know. It's boring to me. Wine is to be enjoyed, not studied. Still, knowing a bit about wine can be good for business. It's also good for meeting women. They fucking love the stuff.

The exclusive photo (above) shows two recent acquisitions for my table. Nothing particularly fancy, mind you. But, as you will notice, there was a certain je ne sais quoi about each of these bottles that drew me in.

Wine is fine but liquor is quicker

I'm a woman and I "fucking hate" wine. Some have tried to change my mind---with pricey bottles--attempting to show me the correlation between money and good taste. They've often been disappointed and surprised because I still didn't care for the "stuff." I've also never cared for beer---never tried it and don't want to in this lifetime. I think it looks like pee and the smell leaves a lot to be desired. My preference is for amaretto sours--heavy on the amaretto and heavy on the sour. Amaretto also taste great over homemade vanilla ice cream as well.

Try some of the Australian Shiraz wines from the Barrossa Valley, McLaren Valen or Heathcote regions.

Anonymous woman, enjoy your many meals at McDonald's paid for by beta losers.

Cameron . . . where did you come from? Ouch!!! ---beta loser---never heard the term before. I googled it--opposite of the alpha male. I assume based on your McDonald's reference, that beta losers don't have money. I know some shy nerds who have done quite well for themselves. One of them was so shy, he couldn't speak to me--kinda like the Big Bang guy. He's a doctor now. Now he's shy with money.

Not at all. I'm saying they have no taste.

Every true wine lover is always on the lookout for a decent red table wine at a reasonable case price.

Indeed it does. The trick with liqueurs is to eschew the second or third glass in lieu of a decent brandy (I prefer a good cognac along with a cigar in this regard.) There is no worse hangover in the world than a B&B hangover. It can last for days.

You recommended Cypher Winery to me last year or so; their wine is amazing! I spent a long weekend in Paso Robles a few weeks ago and discovered more wineries. So fun.

Label drinker.....

a thought from a well know french actor being asked whether should you drink moderately:

No - one must drink wine within reason - drinking wine is to love - do you love with moderation.....

Jacobite . . . I've been fortunate. I've never had a hangover despite heavy drinking at times--knock, knock. Perhaps I can hold my liqueurs fairly well. Perhaps I'm no longer thirsty at some point and I just stop. As I have grown wiser, I have abandoned multiple drinks because they also contain multiple calories. At some point in most people's lives, drinking water becomes a good idea. I'm at that point now.
