Anonymous: With the will to conquer, it is. I am no expert on the subject, but the English were able to control their colonies with fairly few of their own relative to the native population. Keep the following in mind and all else follows:

Gently touch a nettle and it'll sting you for your pains
Grasp it as a lad of mettle and soft as silk remains

First watched at School as a "Historical and Geographical Society" presentation - probably not PC enough for todays education system. Recorded only a few days ago on my digibox and awaiting a viewing. Excellent film.
