Vienna’s gala balls off cultural list January 20, 2012, The Boston Globe
VIENNA - A committee reporting to the UN’s culture organization struck Vienna’s many balls from its list of Austria’s noteworthy traditions yesterday amid an uproar over one of the annual champagne-laced galas that critics say attracts neo-Nazis from across Europe.
The decision by the Austrian UNESCO Commission was welcomed by those who oppose the one often-criticized ball, staged in part by dueling fraternities, including far-right alumni who display saber scars on their cheeks as badges of honor. But the committee also outraged supporters who reject labeling that event as a magnet for backers of Nazi ideology.
I should think that the Austrian UNESCO Commission should go fuck themselves. And "critics say" anything the writer wants them to say especially if the writer is lefty scum with an agenda. These balls will go on nicely without the permission or approval of any organization with UN in its name.
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end."
- Ernst Jünger
"I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings."

Always a lovely venue for the yearly ball. The controversy surrounding the event remains a concern to many. Did you attend this year?
HansB. ~ Not this year. I'm currently on another continent.
Far better company than the rabble protesters outside.
