I've always been impressed with how the closely the interests expressed in this blog mirror my own. Despite my own gentlemanly nature, I too have always had more than a passing interest in the arts of hand-to-hand combat, having traveled to & competed in a number of full-contact fighting tournaments back in my college days.
One must always remember that the roots of the Gentleman are firmly planted in the ideals of Knighthood, which are based fundamentally on a prowess and code of conduct in the context of combat. Keeping in touch with this heritage is not only practical, but keeps one from being 'all breeding and no substance'!
"In every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered..."
- Tacitus, Germania
"One must work in solitude as a man who opens a clearing in virgin forest, sustained by the unique hope that somewhere in its depths, others are working to the same end."
- Ernst Jünger
"I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings."
